Explore the immensity of the Picos de Europa.
Starting from the Liébana Valley, this great expedition will take us into the heart of the Picos de Europa, visiting inaccessible places and tasting the most authentic local gastronomy of the three provinces.
For 8 days we will enjoy a total connection with nature: ascents through passes, gorges, lost villages and charming rural accommodations, all surrounded by majestic fauna such as brown bears, chamois and deer.
Summary Itinerary
Day 1:
Our meeting point will be at the Posada El Corcal de Liébana where the group will stay for the first two nights. This day will be the Welcome day, the presentation of the Aravalle team and the details of the next days on horseback will be revealed during dinner.
Day 2:
Breakfast at 09:00. Transfer to Aravalle at 10:00. Horse allocation, talk on handling and the adventure begins. We will travel part of the Cillorigo Valley, passing villages like Armaño and Colio. Picnic lunch in a shepherd's cabin. Short day to finish in Cabañes, natural entrance to the Picos de Europa National Park. 22 km journey.
Day 3:
Ascent to the Collado de Pelea to descend to Bejes, a typical cheese village (Queso Picón). We will continue ascending towards the Vao de los Lobos, a spectacular beech forest. Passing through the Jito de Escarandi, dividing Cantabria and Asturias, we will finish in Sotres (1050m altitude) resting in a wonderful local hotel. 26 km journey.
Day 4:
Spectacular ride through the valley that divides the eastern and central massif, the Puertos de Áliva. We will reach the Mánforas Mines and take part of the Reconquista Route. Special picnic with paella. Descent through beech forest to the Parador Nacional de Fuente Dé. 16 km journey.
Day 5:
Ascent towards the Alto de Valcavao, entering León. We will reach the Puerto de Pandetrave (1,562 meters) for a stop with a great barbecue and views of the central and western massif. We will continue towards the Valdeón Valley, overlooking the Cares River gorge. 19 km journey.
Day 6:
We will return towards the Puerto de Pandetrave entering the territory of the brown bear, chamois and deer. Crossing the Luriana Valley near Pico Coriscao, the descent towards the lands of the Queen will begin, where we will stay at the San Glorio hotel and taste game meat. 20 km journey.
Day 7:
We will ascend to the Puerto de San Glorio, a protected Bear area. Arriving at the Llesba pass overlooking Picos. We will continue through Prao Cubo to finish in Cosgaya. Farewell lunch with cocido lebaniego at the Hotel restaurante El Oso. Transfer to Potes for accommodation and dinner. 14 km journey.
Day 8:
Breakfast between 08.00 and 10.00 in the morning and end of our services. Possibility of visiting Potes and the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana on your own to earn the Jubilee.
